Jews for Freedom formed in late 2025 in response to the relentless attacks on democracy and the rule of law in our country. In December, many of the organizations behind Jews for Freedom held gatherings that celebrated the joy of Hanukkah – and invited us to recommit to struggles for freedom and against authoritarian leaders.
In 2026, we’ll continue to mobilize to build an effective and widespread resistance. Join us.
Jews for Freedom (JFF) is an emerging coalition mobilizing American Jews to take meaningful action to block authoritarian power grabs and protect the freedoms that keep us safe.
Our goal is to build a Jewish movement for social justice and democracy that musters our collective courage and strength to meet this historical moment.
As Jews committed to a democratic future in this country, we are launching a full-throated and widespread Jewish resistance to authoritarianism as part of a broader multi-faith effort.
This initiative has been organized by the following partners: the Religious Action Center, Bend the Arc, the Collaborative for Jewish Organizing, Jews United for Justice, the Jewish Social Justice Roundtable, Dayenu, and others.
Our mission is to secure a just, livable, and sustainable world for all people for generations to come by building a multi-generational, multi-racial Jewish movement that confronts the climate crisis with spiritual audacity and bold political action.
We cannot achieve this goal if our fundamental freedoms are at risk. President Trump has already weaponized the entirety of the federal government to roll back efforts to combat the climate crisis and threatened Americans’ civil rights and liberties. We cannot achieve our climate mission without robust protections for democracy and the rule of law.
Jews for Freedom is marshalling the American Jewish community to stand up, resist, and demand that our democracy works for all of us. We’re strongest and safest when we join together with others to protect our loved ones, our neighbors, our freedoms, and our ability to have a say over the decisions that affect our lives. We are proud to take action with Jews for Freedom and the broader movement to uphold our democracy.
This December, we invite you to join a Light and Unite! Hanukkah Gathering. These joyful events will celebrate the meaning of Hanukkah, strengthen community, deepen political understanding, and build readiness for collective nonviolent action.
We are hosting a virtual Light and Unite! Hanukkah Party on Tuesday, December 16th at 8 ET/5 PT and are offering support for you to host your own event with your Dayenu Circle, synagogue, or larger community. We’ll come together, eat Hanukkah treats, light candles, share kvetches and camaraderie, and feel a little lighter and less alone. We’ll also have time to discuss the current moment and learn about mass movement plans to take action to defend our freedoms.
In the coming months there will be further opportunity for collective action and ritual centering around holidays and other planned events. Stay tuned!
