Take a minute to tell lawmakers you want them to support policies (Plug and Play Solar SB868 and Community Solar and Storage AB1813) that will make our energy more reliable, resilient, and affordable.
About the Legislation:
Plug and Play Solar Act (SB 868):
This legislation would allow people to use Plug-In solar panels without paying fees or having to get permission from a utility company. “Plug-In solar” are portable solar panels that you can hang from a balcony, lean against your home, or set out in your yard, and then simply plug into a regular wall outlet, just like a toaster. From there, the electricity from these solar panels helps to power the appliances in your home. This bill also establishes a statewide safety standard for all Plug-In solar panels in California.
Plug in solar will help make electricity more affordable for renters and homeowners alike in all housing types including apartments, mobile homes, and single family houses. It’s a simple and safe solution that can put the power of the sun into more consumers’ hands.
Community Solar and Storage (AB 1813):
This legislation creates a scalable community solar and storage program in California. Residents subscribe to a local solar project and receive a utility bill credit, eliminating the need for rooftop ownership or on-site installation. Small projects (20-30 acres) keep power local, avoiding transmission lines. Subscribers receive utility bill credits based on the energy produced. Joining is simple, requiring no home installation or maintenance.
