The SAVE Act is President Trump’s latest attack on our democracy and our ability to make change – on the climate crisis, and on other issues we hold dear – through peaceful, democratic means. While we watch in horror as President Trump and his minions in Congress implement  their agenda of violence – destroying climate protections, invading our cities, rolling back rights in authoritarian overreach – we hold onto hope for the coming midterm elections, when voters can have our say about the urgency to invest in a livable future.

However, they are fighting back with all their might, promoting schemes to disenfranchise millions of voters and spread disinformation in a thinly veiled plot to sow doubt about the legitimacy of elections.

We MUST defeat the SAVE Act.

This bill would override state election laws to require burdensome, restrictive identification requirements before voting, mandate voter roll purges, ban universal mail-in ballots, and require every state to turn over voter rolls to the federal government. 

These requirements would suppress millions of votes. It would especially burden elderly voters, people of color, military voters, tribal voters, rural voters, and survivors of natural disasters.

Rabbi Yitzhak taught that “A ruler is not to be appointed unless the community is first consulted.” The SAVE Act would undercut all efforts to consult and engage our American community.
