We are calling on Governor Hochul and our elected officials to ensure that we continue making progress in a just and equitable way by funding programs that move us toward a clean energy future. With the federal government now fully captured by corporate polluters, this is the moment for states to step up and take big bold climate action. We need to act now to demand the strongest possible programs to invest in clean energy, public health, good jobs, and affordability for New Yorkers.
To meet the Jewish imperative to survive and thrive l’dor vador (from generation to generation), we call on our elected officials at all levels of government to support the investments and policies necessary to create a just and livable future for all New Yorkers!
Our next organizing call is on May 21, where we’ll go over legislative priorities and prepare for key state hearings in June!
Tell the NYS Department of Environmental Protection to put a cap on pollution and release the regulations for its cap-and-invest program.
The first round of regulatory hearings around critical Cap Trade & Invest climate legislation is on June 4 in Albany and June 12 in Queens.
New York is not doing nearly enough to ensure that the benefits of a clean energy future – clean air and water, affordable energy bills, and good, green jobs – reach every New Yorker regardless of race, income, or zip code. Together, we can change this.
New York’s Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act – which our climate movement had a huge role in winning – enables the state to set a strict limit on planet-warming emissions, charge corporations for their share of pollution, and then invest those funds in climate solutions.
We demand that our state officials and lawmakers act to limit climate pollution while raising much-needed funds for community-based climate solutions. Governor Hochul’s Administration must move forward a Cap and Invest program which would set a strict pollution cap, and state lawmakers must direct those earnings to the communities that have suffered the most from poverty, pollution, and the burning of dirty fossil fuels.
To move this program forward, Governor Hochul must allow regulatory agencies to release the draft regulations that can actually limit pollution and initiate a public hearing and comment period.
The first round of regulatory hearings are on June 4 in Albany and June 12 in Queens. Sign up to participate today! We need to show up in force to let the Hochul administration know that Jewish New Yorkers demand a safe and livable climate for generations to come. Ways to get involved in the hearings include written testimony, showing up at the hearings (without providing testimony), and showing up AND providing testimony! You will be contacted by an organizer as we get closer to the date for more information on each option.
We will be joined by members of the NYR coalition from throughout the state to call on Hochul and the Department of Environmental Protection to:
Check back soon for more information on the public comment period for the first round of regulations!
By signing up, you will receive periodic communications from Dayenu.
