Sukkot the Vote!

Activists in Massachusetts and California gather in sukkot to write postcards to voters

Sukkot is a holiday that asks us to cultivate joy even in turbulent times. To envision the world we want, and take steps to bring it to life. As Rabbi Laura Bellows notes, “Just as the shofar awakens us to renewal and responsibility, we can awaken our communities and leaders to the urgency of the climate crisis.”

This year, the week of Sukkot falls about a month out from the crucial midterm elections; and hundreds of Dayenu activists are stepping up to take action to get out the climate vote.

On September 30, activists gathered at the community sukkah in Jamaica Plain, MA to write postcards to voters in Texas who care about climate change, and give them the chutzpah to get to the polls. Together, we wrote 200 postcards (all that we were supplied by Environmental Voter Project!), enjoyed pizza, and picked up some great swag.

In California, activists convened at sukkot in various locations, including Moishe House in Oakland, Temple Beth El in Aptos, a sukkah in Oakland, and Sherith Israel in San Francisco.
