NY Jewish Climate Summit energizes and mobilizes activists

DAYENU CLIMATE ACTIVISTS IN ACTION

Jewish New Yorkers demand Climate, Jobs, and Justice!

On April 7, a powerful group of Jewish climate activists gathered in Manhattan for the 2024 NY Jewish Climate Summit, hosted by Dayenu, The RAC, Adamah New York, and the Central Synagogue.

Together, we learned, sang, and called on electeds — including NY Governor Kathy Hochul and Speaker of the NYS Assembly Carl Heastie — to include the NY HEAT Act and the Climate Change Superfund Act in the New York State Budget. We continue to work with a broad coalition brought together by NY Renews, which shows great leadership in powerfully advocating for the Climate, Jobs, and Justice package during this session. This package of bills deliberately centers climate justice and seeks to alleviate the disproportionate impact of climate change on overburdened communities.

The summit featured powerful words from BlocPower CEO Donnel Baird and some levity from climate comedian and Dayenu Advisory Board Member Josh Burstein, as well as a number of breakout sessions to engage and inspire our activism.

In addition, we were happy to welcome NYC Council Member Julie Menin; NYC Council Member Eric Dinowitz; and Manhattan Borough President Mark D. Levine.
