jewish spiritual care after extreme weather
resources for clergy & communal leaders, and individuals
In the immediate wake of disasters, we tend to basic needs: checking in with our people and doing what we can to ensure they have a place to stay, food, transport, and the ability to reconnect with loved ones. But many survivors and others impacted by climate disasters also face a long road to emotional and spiritual recovery – needs which often emerge after the news cameras have left. The process of rebuilding is ongoing, but the emotional and spiritual pain may linger.
These guides offer Jewish spiritual sustenance, Torah, and ritual ideas for community care in the wake of climate disasters that are made worse and more frequent by climate change.
Please note: These are not emergency response or disaster preparedness resources. They are intended for reflection, healing, community-building, and spiritual support before, during, and after climate-related events.
