In California, we know: Climate change is here. The cost of the Los Angeles fires alone is likely to exceed $250 billion.
Wildfires, heat waves, and floods — made worse by the climate crisis — are driving up insurance premiums and energy bills for Californians. Homeowners struggle to find coverage, and when insurance costs surge, landlords pass those hikes on to renters. Right now, California taxpayers unfairly shoulder the cost of climate disasters while big fossil fuel polluters continue to rake in profits and worsen the crisis.
That’s why Senator Scott Wiener introduced the Affordable Insurance and Recovery (AIR) Act (SB 982) to make insurance affordable for California’s working families.
This bill would help make home insurance affordable and available in California. It would allow the CA Attorney General to take large oil and gas corporations to court, hold them accountable, and protect Californians bearing these costs through high insurance premiums.
Tell your legislator to take action to hold corporate polluters accountable, reduce costs, and support affordable insurance now.
