And that starts now, in 2025. The 2024 elections ushered in a far-right trifecta to Washington, DC that has taken active steps to undermine our democracy in fundamental and unprecedented ways. The dark shadow of authoritarianism now looms over the United States. Among other dangers, President Trump has weaponized the entirety of the federal government to roll back efforts to combat the climate crisis.
To fight back, we need climate champions in policymaking positions at all levels of government.
Which means we need to build a powerful bloc of climate voters. And that is harder than ever. Politicians continue to rig the game, particularly against communities featuring Black, Brown, Indigenous, and low-income populations. Despite a long, history of struggling to enfranchise voters, it remains true that millions do not turn out to vote each year. Which means two things: 1. We have a government that does not represent the interests of everyone and heavily favors white, wealthy, corporate interests and 2. We have an enormous opportunity to mobilize infrequent voters who care about the climate and ensure their interests are represented.
That’s what Chutzpah is about: Getting people to exercise their right to vote.
